Kindergarten

In Kindergarten music we focus on making and experiencing music and learning basic skills related to sound.

Skills include:

  1. Identifying and practicing the different types of voices: talking, singing, whispering, calling (loud, but not screaming/yelling), thinking (inner voice)

  2. Tuneful singing: using singing voice, matching pitch, use of sustained breath.

  3. Identifying and using high versus low sounds.

  4. Identifying loud versus quiet sounds (like audio volume, *not the same as high versus low).

  5. Identifying and practicing sound versus silence.

  6. Identifying long versus short sounds (preparation for simple rhythm).

  7. Identifying same versus different sound-patterns and iconic symbols.

  8. Practicing and performing unpitched percussion instruments.

  9. Experiencing, practicing, and identifying steady beat in recorded and live music.

  10. Identifying fast versus slow music.

  11. Experiencing and practicing steady beat versus rhythm (rhythm of the words).

  12. Experiencing and practicing movement and spacial awareness (positive and negative space)
