2022 HHS Robotics 1st Season

Video presentation of our first 8 months in action at Howland High School.  From setting up the Robotics lab, building our first robot, competing in our first event in Cleveland, and completing our first major fundraisers to fund the 2022-2023 season.

It has been a blast and we hope this sets up a solid foundation for HHS Robotics going strong for many years to come.  GO TIGERBOTICS!

All pictures taken by Bob Jadloski (Rockshotz).  These pictures were made available by Nancy Richards, Regional Director, Ohio FIRST ®.

Thank you to both of them for allowing us to have these great shots of our team and our robot in action.

2022 Jen+Tonic STEM Event

Polo tournament and STEM Fundraiser in East Palestine, Ohio.  JRPF Foundation supports the event and benefits from proceeds to fund STEM projects.

Howland Local Schools received >$1,300 from JRPF to start a FIRST Lego League program at Howland Junior High School.  A class pack was chosen to benefit the most students as part of a class curriculum.

2022 Mahoning Valley Robotics Challenge (Post FRC Season Event at Austintown Middle School)

Last event for our 2022 Season Robot called "Saber-Tooth".  Our student driver and technician teams did well placing 8th out of 19 teams in regular competition.   Also, our team was the 6th semi-final team captain.  Thank you to everyone involved.

Next FIRST Robotics season will begin on January 7th.

2022 VEX Robotics Competition

Our Tigerbotics VEX team (#28718A) attended the Mahoning Valley VRC Blended Invitational, Canfield, Ohio on December 10th, 2022.  This was the teams first VRC event.  Joshua Reble and Evan Hodges were our Driver/Technician team for the entire event with a some coding help from Adam Siegfried.

The team placed 19th out of 22 teams which was a good start for the first time on a field.

We hope to compete on Feb 4th, 2023 at the Mahoning Valley VRC Blended Qualifier.

2023 Mahoning Valley VRC Qualifier

Our Tigerbotics VEX team (#28718A) completed its current VEX Robotics Season (Feb 4th, 2023).  The Tigers had four Robotics students competing as drivers and technicians in the Mahoney Valley VRC Blended Qualifier.

Results:  43rd place out of 60+ teams

Location:  MCCTC, Canfield, Ohio

The Howland Tigerbotics VEX team did not make it to the finals but the students really worked hard to keep updating the robot after each of the five competitions and increased their scoring potential as well as results.

2023 Trumbull County Drone Racing League

Our first year Drone team competed in the 2023 TCDRL competition at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in both the PIA and Winner Aviation Hangars.

Results from the TCDRL Website:

Head to Head Racing = 3rd seed in qualifying matches (2nd place in Finals)

Capture the Flag = 3rd seed in qualifying matches (3rd place in Finals)

Judges Scoring of Display, Portfolio, and Interview:  231 points (lowest was 69, highest was 339 out of 370 potential)

Overall Ranking:  5th place out of 8 teams (both competitions and judges scoring)

Please Congratulate Gavin Boyts (Teams Pilot), Addison Loomis (Tech), Avery Snowden (PM), and Calvin Croff (Marketing).  Next year we hope to have 2 teams, better displays/portfolios, and new drones with custom 3D printed frames.

2023 FRC Buckeye Regional Event

Initial pictures of FRC team at Buckeye Regional in Cleveland, Ohio (and some of our new equipment/materials).  We had 3 Squads (each with 2 Drivers and 2 Technicians) plus our master coder and a 3 person media team taking pictures (more pictures coming soon).

We did better than our first year (3-7-0, 40th in Qualifiers) and we learned many hard lessons about the design being a priority over assembly and driving (can't do one without the other).  Design will be a priority next season.

The students did a great job overcoming all of the obstacles.  Marissa and Bryce worked really hard to keep the robot and overall team running so we did not miss any of our matches.  This helped lead the team to an improved result over last year (never give up).

More to come in 2024.

Aptiv "Bring Your Child to Work"

Howland Robotics (Team 8718) and three other local FRC Robotics teams supported Aptiv (a sponsor for all four teams) during their "Bring your child to work" day during the national event.

All teams demonstrated their robots capabilities and talked with parents and children attending the event.  We hope to have inspired local families to be involved in high school robotics programs or any extracurricular STEM related activities.

Thanks to Bryce Moldovan, 12th grade, and Brian Burkey, 11th grade, for their involvement.

HC Mines Career Day (May 5th. 2023)

Howland High School Robotics Team members supported the Howland Primary School  (HC Mines) Career day.  They demonstrated the teams FRC Robot, VRC Robot, Training robot, and "Drones in School" activities during the 2022-2023 school year.

Thank you to Bryce Moldovan, 12th grade, and Brian Burkey, 11th grade, for supporting the presentation to the students and teachers at the school.

2023 FRC Ohio State Champions

At the end of the regular season, Tigerbotics Team 8718 was ranked 29th out of 55 Ohio FRC Teams.  Due to conflicts, the team was invited to the Ohio State Championship in New Albany, Ohio (North of Columbus) where the top 24 Ohio FRC teams competed.

The team achieved a 3-3-0 record and placed 20th in qualifying matches.  However, they were selected at the end to be part of the #1 Alliance (desired for its tank drive defensive capabilities and ability to balance at match end due to width and drive system).  One match relied on the 3 robot alliance balancing together and they won by 1 point (166 to 165).

We are all very proud of the work the entire team put into building and competing with the robot, and the luck and determination shown by Nadrian Gary and Bryce Moldovan during the Ohio State Championship.  Congratulations to Everyone!

2023 Jen+Tonic Polo for STEM

Polo tournament and STEM Fundraiser in East Palestine, Ohio.  JRPF Foundation supports the event and provides proceeds to fund STEM projects in local communities.

Howland Local Schools received $500 from JRPF for 2023-2024 Robotics activities.

Oh Wow!  Silly Science Sunday (2023)

HHS Robotics supported Oh Wow! Science Center for their annual Silly Science Sunday.  We had 3 students attending a small robot gaming area in the basement of the center (kids and adults loved it) and we had a couple students under tents building a riding robot with our mentors.  Everyone had a good time sharing STEM with the Mahoning Valley community.
