Spanish 3H

Extra help is available during class meetings or outside of class by appointment, according to the office hours schedule. Students must arrange for help well in advance, at least 24 hours. Extra help will not be available to students who do not use class time wisely or who do not attempt regular assignments.

Class Resources

Students will be expected to have access to a computer with Internet access. They may use their personal devices, their district ChromeBook, or devices in a public library.

Students will be expected to bring the following materials when meeting in person unless otherwise instructed. If a student needs additional organizational help, he or she may be required to have a more formalized and structured system.

• His or her district-issued ChromeBook

• An organized note-taking and storage method (binder with paper, spiral notebook, etc.)

• Loose-leaf paper for turning in assignments

• A blue or black pen (pencils are okay for work not turned in)

• His/her school-issued textbook (if applicable)

Students may also be expected, with reasonable notice, to obtain 3x5 inch index cards, posterboard, or other project materials. If a student is on free or reduced lunch, other arrangements may be made.

Grading Procedures

All assignments will be graded within the 60% major/40% minor assessment guidelines as mandated by the district. Please see the following lists for examples of major and minor assessments.

Late work policy

This class will conform to the JL Mann Late Work Policy. You will have time to complete nearly every graded assignment during class meetings so I do not anticipate this policy affecting many students. Late work due to an absence will follow the Make-up Assignment Policy.

Grading will follow the district policy

A → 90-100

B → 80-89

C → 70-79

D → 60-69

F → 59 and below

Please check PowerSchool at least weekly and Google Classroom at least every day. If there are any concerns, it is easier to address them early.

Discipline Policies

It is my goal to provide a safe and academically-focused environment for all students. If a student disrupts class or otherwise undermines his or her own educational process, or the educational process of the whole class, actions such as warnings, punitive assignments, and referrals will be given.

Classroom guiding principles:

• Respect goes both ways

• Actions have consequences

• Be honest in your actions

• Do something today for tomorrow

A few non-negotiable rules:

• Stay in your seat during instruction

• No messy stuff in the classroom

• Come to class with your materials

• Do not disrupt classmates’ learning

Cellphone, Earbuds, and Electronic Devices Usage:

J.L. Mann is continuing a BYOD (“Bring Your Own Device”) policy. Teachers may allow students to use devices in the classroom if it supports the lesson. If the teacher has not given permission for the students to use their devices, however, the devices must not be seen or heard. If a student uses their device in class without the teacher’s permission, disciplinary action according to the GCS policy will be followed.

Academic Dishonesty

J. L. MANN HIGH SCHOOL HONOR CODE -

The School District of Greenville County expects students to maintain integrity in all school work and to refrain from any action that would bring dishonor to them or their schools. Copying the work of others and submitting it as one’s own or securing or providing answers in a dishonest way is forbidden.

Plagiarism from the Internet is included in this offense.

Consequences: Parent notification is required. A grade of 0 will be given for the assignment or the examination. A referral is filed with the appropriate administrator, and the student will be counseled by the teacher or other school personnel. Additional disciplinary sanctions may be applied.

Tardy Policy

No student will be admitted to class without an official pass provided by HERO system. For details of the common building-wide tardy policy, please refer to the student handbook.
