Newborn screenings are conducted in the State of Missouri prior to discharge from the hospital. The Webster County Health Department does the newborn screenings for these babies born outside of the hospital and are uninsured or have Medicaid. The Department of Health and Senior Services says these tests are done to help protect them from the serious effects of conditions that otherwise may not be detected for several days, months, or even years.
