F.A.Q

How are these positions different from normal volunteering? Our Summer Program Leaders have more responsibility than normal volunteering. They can involve planning and prepping lessons and activities with students, and are a regular obligation. Plus they are paid!

If I am selected, how many summer programs do I have to run? You can select just one program to run or more. Summer Camp leaders will only run Hotchkiss or Delta's Summer Camp. It is possible to apply for both Summer Camp and Garden Club leader positions.

Do I need any previous experience working with kids or gardening? Yes, working with children in the garden and during our summer camps can be a challenging task. We ask that our summer camp and garden club leaders have experience working with groups of young students in an outdoor or unstructured setting. Garden club leaders should also have hands-on knowledge of growing food in a garden or agricultural setting.

Do I need to apply for every program session? Summer Camp leaders must lead all six sessions. It is difficult to find a substitute leader to fill in. We ask that garden club leaders apply with the intention of leading each session. In the event a garden club leader must miss a session, we have the ability to find a substitute leader.

Do I need a background check? Yes, because you are working with a school-based program, the school district requires all leaders to have a background check, provided by the school district,  and be approved by the Delta County School Board.
