Research @ the School of Education

The School of Education (SoE) is home to a vibrant, inclusive, interdisciplinary research community. Our six research groups span diverse fields of learning and development across the life course, from the early years to higher education, to work-based and lifelong learning. Internationally-recognised researchers and researcher-practitioners work alongside early career researchers and doctoral students in an environment that encourages collaboration and critical dialogue. We work across the rich disciplinary and methodological traditions of educational research, including the humanities, social sciences, life sciences, and health sciences. Funding comes from a variety of organisations, including research councils, government departments, international agencies and charities.

Developed from a focus on STEM subjects and integrates the Arts, promoting intellectual and creative potential across subjects - in relation to learning and pedagogy across a spectrum of curriculum subjects.

Concerned with the changing policy agenda for education , the new relationships being forged as school, further education and university partnerships shift, and the types of educational leadership required to address the challenges of the 21st Century.

Draws together researchers who adopt a variety of humanistic methodologies (historical, philosophical, literacy, anthropological, visual and artistic).

The group explores quantitative research into pedagogic interactions and qualitative research into the emotional aspects of relationships between adults and children, as well quality in Early Years Provision and the experiences of Early Years practitioners in Higher Education.

Critically exploring policy, pedagogy and practice in relation to to the educational experiences of children and young people who are 'vulnerable', 'marginalised' or 'excluded.

Drawing together researchers who adopt a variety of humanistic methodologies (historical, philosophical, literary, anthropological, visual and artistic).
