Read the article, "A Lucky Day at the Beach." Use the Five Mental Actions (monitoring comprehension, making connections, predicting, reformatting, and mentally summarizing) to assist you in determining the main idea and successfully answering the attached comprehension questions.

TUESDAY

Read the selected passage one time through, then read it again and use reformatting (highlighting or underlining) to identify key words that help to determine the main idea.

WEDNESDAY

Use monitoring comprehension and making connections to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words. State information from the text that assisted you in determining word meaning.

THURSDAY

Write one paragraph to summarize the main idea of the essay. Complete the comprehension questions.
