WRITING

6th Preview

MONDAY

Instructional Video

Watch the video and learn how to convert your informative essay into a informative-narrative story which includes characters, setting, and plot. You will be one of the characters.

TUESDAY

Now that you have completed your one paragraph informative essay, you will convert it into an informative-narrative. Imagine that you can somehow "visit" the person you wrote about in your informative essay. Perhaps you are traveling through time, daydreaming, or have gone briefly unconscious. While you are visiting your person, you will help them in some way. For instance, if you were visiting Benjamin Franklin, you might help him figure out how to discover lightning. You cannot change history and you cannot "take credit" for the invention or famous act of your person.

TODAY: Determine how you will "visit" your person, how you will help him or her, and how you will "get home." Create an outline to help you organize your thoughts. Remember, this is an informative-narrative, so you must include some of the "facts" about your person. This assignment will be two paragraphs.

1st paragraph: Introduce how you "travel" to meet your person, and how you help your person with his or her invention or famous event.

2nd paragraph: Discuss how you "get home," and conclude your essay with your thoughts about the journey.

WEDNESDAY

Write the rough draft for your two paragraph essay. Make sure that you have good transition sentences between your paragraphs. Your last paragraph should have a strong clincher sentence to sum up the "journey."

THURSDAY

Edit/Revise your rough draft essay. Be sure to include sentence openers, dress-ups, and strong verbs and adjectives.

Compose your final draft.
