Mentors play such a vital role in the growth and retention of our Beginning Teachers!
Mentoring is a partnership created to help support new teachers by providing them with a veteran teacher to confidently discuss topics and provide guidance. As a mentor, we hope that you find this experience provides you with great satisfaction in making a difference for a beginning teacher while having an opportunity to enhance your teacher leadership skills. Below you will find important information to help you support your beginning teacher.
Mentor Training & Options
"Do I need to be trained as a mentor?"
NC requires all educators serving in the honorable position of mentor to participate in mentor training (Source: TCED 016 policy). Additional information may be found on the NCDPI Mentor Training site.
If you completed mentor training (online or in-person) since 2010, your certification is considered current and up to date. You do not need to participate at this time. If you have not, choose one of the two options available:
Option #1 : BCS BTSP Mentor Training Module is an abbreviated, self-paced online training module. ~One contact hour, .1 CEU.
Option #2: NCDPI Mentor Training Module from NCDPI offers 21st Century Mentoring. It is a self-paced online training module accessible through your NCEdCloud account. 10 contact hours, 1.0 CEU.
