Standards

We will be working on the Common Core State Standards for first grade this year. These standards will be taught and assessed throughout the school year. They are found on your child's standards-based report card. Your child is expected to improve upon and ideally master all standards in order to be prepared for second grade. Below are several different links that will bring you to the Ohio Common Core Standards for first grade. The Language Arts standards are broken into 3 categories - Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language.

Common Core Standards for Writing

*These standards deal specifically with your child's mastery of the written language and ability to apply their knowledge to writing. Students are working on being able to express their thoughts, ideas, knowledge and opinions through writing. These are very important skills that they will be the basis of their future education.

Common Core Standards for Speaking & Listening

*These standards deal specifically with your child's mastery of the spoken language and their ability to express themselves verbally.

Common Core Standards for Language

*These standards deal specifically with your child's mastery of the conventions of both spoken language and written language. These standards address topics that range from ideas such as grammar and capitalization to conversations and vocabulary.
