Reading Tools!

A big part of reading is finding the right book for YOU! This page is set to help you with finding an interesting book at YOUR level! You can also see my blog (located on the home page) to get some strategies!

Reading Levels

Remember when we talked about Lexile scores during MAP testing? If you don't know your Lexile score, see me! Click here for a site that you can match your Lexile score with a book. This is really helpful when I assign your "Lexile book," or if you tend to struggle with reading. There are 2 easy ways to use this:

  • If you already know of a book you want and just want to make sure it is a good fit for your reading level, just type the book title into the search bar. See if that fits into your Lexile range.
  • If you are looking for a book at your level, click "find a book" and it will walk you through it. It will ask for your Lexile range and then have you pick interest areas.

Another website that can be useful is The Scholastic Book Wizard. There are a variety of methods to search for books, including Lexile, grade level, and interests.

Interesting Books!

Have you read a good book? Really stuck on that book and want something similar? Use this site to find a similar book! I can't vouch for all of the books on it, but it covers A LOT of books!

I use Shelfari to track what I've read and what I want to read. You are welcome to create your own account and follow me. I also love book suggestions! This widget will hopefully change a bit, but it will work for now!

The Subtle Knife
Life As We Knew It
The House on Mango Street

Have you ever gotten really into a book and realized there was something in the book that you or your family might not approve of? These 2 sites can help with that!

commonsensemedia.org is one that I use a lot!

Thriving Family is one that others have recommended, but I haven't used much.

Want to tell others they should read your book? Use the comment section below. Post the book title and tell people why you liked it. This can be a helpful tool for people struggling to find a good book!
