Steps to apply:

  1. Search for scholarships that fit you.
  2. Make a list of required information needed (letter of recommendation, financial information, transcripts etc.) and deadlines.
  3. Write your essay. Work smarter, not harder! Use your admissions essay as a starting point. Some scholarships may have similar essay requirements, use what you have and edit for specific applications.
  4. Fill out your application
  5. Double check all requirements and have someone proof read all portions.
  6. Submit before the deadline
  7. If you are awarded any scholarships you need to let the Financial Aid Office at your college as soon as possible. Your awards may impact your financial aid package (usually replacing scholarships with loans)

Common Terms

Scholarship: A sum of money given to a student for the purpose of paying a least part of the college.

Scholarships can be awarded to students based on academic achievements, financial need or a variety of other factors. Scholarships and grants DO NOT have to be repaid.

Renewable Scholarship: A scholarship that can be awarded for multiple years. Called "renewable" because there is usually a minimum requirement (such as GPA) that must be met in order for the scholarship to be provided in future years.

Merit Aid: Money offered to a student based on specific talent, such as academics, athletics, etc.

Need-based Aid: Money offered to a student based on financial status of the student or family.
