'Rock Your Recorder'

Here's the page that matches your new 'Rock Your Recorder' book.  You will have the music in your books to match all the clips here except for 'Slam Dunk' which I just want you to clap first to get the rhythms and then play with those same rhythms. Make sure your books and recorders are at school every day...keep them in your bags.  Have fun!

The very first thing you need to learn as a recorder player is to use your left hand at the top and your right hand at the bottom.  Your left hand is going to make the first three notes you are going to learn and all your right hand has to do is just hold your recorder steady.

Next thing is that your thumb hardly has anything to do.  While you are learning your first three notes, all it does is cover the hole at the back so absolutely no air can escape.

Watch this clip to remind you all about what your left and right hand have to do.

Your first note is called B.  Watch this clip which tells you how to play it.

Now that you can play the note B to make a beautiful sound, you'll be able to play 'Play a B' and 'Summer Shake' in your booklet.  Click on the next two clips for the music to both of these, 'Play a B' is first, then 'Summer Shake'.  Clap the word rhythm to 'Slam Dunk' and then see if you can play your B notes to match that rhythm.

Yay!  You're onto your second note which is called A.  It is really easy to learn A when you know B.  It's just adding one more finger and covering one more hole.

Now's there four short pieces of music you can play when you know how to play B and A notes.  Click on the clips below - they are in the same order as your 'Rock Your Recorder' book.

'Let's Play A'

Great!  You've learned two notes and now there's just one more.  Add another finger to cover the next hole down and you are making the note G.  Blow very softly to make a perfect G sound.

Now that you can play three notes you can have a go at the next pieces of music in your 'Rock Your Recorder' book.  Remember to always blow super softly to get the very best sound you can.

Here's 'Cool Cat Rap' - great practice for your G notes!

'Copy a Rhythm' is next - your first piece of music using all three notes

Now try 'Puppy Dogs' and remember where it says 'sh' you have a think one beat of silence
