The learning management system for all dance classes is GOOGLE CLASSROOM. The class stream is where all assignments, announcements, surveys, forms, and rehearsal videos will be posted. The classwork page is where students find all calendars, materials and assignments. Students will receive class codes the first day of class. Our Google Classroom pages are private and for students and staff only!
There are no required pre-school camps or classes for dancers in levels I, II, III and IV.
Zeeland Dance does have a summer program for all dancers interested in continuing their dance education in June and July. Use the link on our homepage to view our summer dance opportunity. Students in Dance IV will be offered some summer opportunities for class/assembly piece. Students in Dance Ensemble will be expected at camp in August per the ensemble contract.
See Mrs. Clyde for more information.
All dancers should plan on attending the Kicks Sale to purchase required shoes and dancewear! If you are unable to attend the Zeeland Sale you can visit Kicks in Grand Rapids!
Please direct any questions to Mrs. Clyde via email at nclyde@zps.org.
Live Performance Assignments
Students are required to attend and reflect on one live dance performance per semester. The Live Dance Performance Assignment is worth 50-100 points in the written assessments portion of a student's grade and is required each semester to pass any dance course. Multiple performance opportunities will be announced in class, but students may also choose their own including school dance performances/musicals, studio performances, college performances, and professional performances. Students are encouraged to consider seeing an event at Hope College, GVSU, WMU, Oakland University or CMU if they are interested in collegiate dance. Local professional recommendations include Grand Rapids Balled (GR), Broadway Grand Rapids, and Eisenhower Dance Detroit (Birmingham, MI).
Pre and Post Concert Evaluations - Written Assignments
Pre-Concert Self Evaluations have been moved to Google Forms which will be placed on class pages. These are due about two weeks prior to a performance and may not be turned in late. Post-Concert Self Evaluations are due the Wednesday following concert weekend. Both are included in the written assessments portion of a student's grade.
Concert Rules, Expectations, and Rubric
Students final exam grade each semester is their participation in our winter or spring dance concert production. These performances are required. Traditionally our winter concert takes place the first weekend of December and our spring concert the second or third weekend of May (after Tulip Time).
Employability Assessments
Students are evaluated monthly on habits and behaviors that make them employable in the future. This includes attendance, turning in work on time, being prepared for class, following the class dress code, adhering to rules and expectations of behavior, work ethic, and being a good teammate. Employability is worth 20% of a student's total semester grade. The study of performing arts, particularly dance, builds more than dancers. It builds confidence, discipline, work ethic, and valued behaviors that will follow students throughout life.
Student Choreography Projects
Students in every level of Zeeland Dance participate in a yearly student choreography project. Expectations and assignments vary depending on level in the program. Student choreography expectations are posted on Google Classroom for each class. Generally Dance I and II students spend first semester working on developing and understanding the elements of dance and have a student choreography project at the end of the year with in-class performances on their scheduled exam days. Dance III, III R/A, IV, and Ensemble students have a group Student Choreography project after the winter concert and before the end of first semester. This project produces a themed student choreography concert performance open to the public in January. Check our PERFORMANCES page on this website for information about this concert.
