Gamer With Good Grades
Sarah is successful at school and her teacher commends her for her efforts. She plays sports three times a week, and she is in the school band. She practices the trumpet for 15 minutes a day, five days a week, and she takes a private lesson once a week.
Sarah has a PlayStation 4 in her bedroom and enjoys playing a variety of video games such as FIFA Street, Grand Theft Auto, and Minecraft. Some of these games she plays have an online community. She often plays for two hours at a time. On weekends, she sometimes plays for up to four hours, and then comes back to it later for another two.

Setting hard limits on the amount of screen time can be a difficult conversation. Current research says that students older than 6 should have consistent limits placed around the use and type of media used, and that the use of media doesn't get in the way of adequate sleep and exercise.
We recommend that you have these discussions as a family and establish guidelines. Also at regular intervals sit together as a family and discuss how the guidelines are working.
