I have been Principal of SZPAB since it opened in August 2015, leading the school to ADEC Band A recognition within just over two terms after opening.
Previously I worked as a school inspector and was a Head Teacher in London, United Kingdom where my school achieved 'outstanding' status and won the coveted Pupil Premium Award, the only national award for schools in the UK. I am determined to make SZPAB a truly outstanding school for the community in Abu Dhabi. We have a team of truly exceptional teachers, in harmony with the high aspirations of our wonderful students and parents. I want our students to be happy and successful and to really enjoy their SZPAB experiences.
I joined SZPAB in August 2016 because I fully believe in the school’s mission and values. Early Years education is my life’s work and I am passionate about supporting teachers, families and our youngest learners to reach their fullest potential. Having worked in education since 2005, I have been privileged to teach a range of grade levels for young learners, serve in various leadership roles, and develop strong parent engagement programs in Texas and Abu Dhabi. Prior to joining SZPAB, I was Head of Faculty and a Special Education Coach for the Vanderbilt project in a ADEC Kindergarten school for three years that earned a Band A rating.
My personal philosophy of education stems from the belief that when children are healthy, safe, supported, engaged and challenged, they are then able to learn to the best of their ability. As Head of Early Years, my hope is to build confidence, independence, a natural curiosity, critical thinking skills and love of learning in all students.
Outside of SZPAB, I enjoy being on the water, traveling, playing with my dogs and reading. My husband and I love Abu Dhabi and hope to call the U.A.E. home for many years to come.
I have been part of SZPAB team since we began. I'm from New Zealand and started my teaching career in 1994. I've taught in a number of countries and year levels with leadership positions including leading English, Science and Mathematics curriculums. I was also leading as a deputy principal in New Zealand and a Principal in the Middle East.
Prior to joining the Sheikh Zayed Boys I worked in the education reform project in Al Ain and was principal of a private elementary school in Riyadh.
I come from a strong tradition of elementary school teaching with many years experience in the teaching of literacy and numeracy to elementary aged students. Over the last 10 years I worked in Education for Arabic students, helping to move students towards international levels of achievement.
My personal philosophy for education looks at teaching children to be independent learners. Teachers need to provide opportunities to engage their students with challenging tasks that motivate them to learn. Learning is not about the memorizing of knowledge but the ability to apply knowledge at the right time and in the right way.
I started at SZPAB in January 2016, having worked in three schools in Dorset, England for the previous 11 years. I graduated from the University of Chichester in 2005.
My personal philosophy on education stems from a belief that every child should have the opportunity to exceed their potential and we, as educators, are very privileged to watch children grow from young children to mature young adults. As Head of Secondary I hope to nurture independence, creativity, curiosity and a love of learning to ensure your child has the academic knowledge and self-confidence to exceed even their own expectations.
Outside of the classroom I enjoy keeping fit, reading and socialising. I also have a passion for traveling, exploring and adventure, having recently completed my first ski dive and returned from my travels from New Zealand and Australia. This April, my wife and I welcomed a beautiful baby girl Millie, into the world. I very much look forward to meeting and welcoming your all to the Sheikh Zayed family.
