In accordance with Oklahoma State Law, two testing opportunities are offered each year for qualifying students. The testing opportunities for Yukon Public Schools are provided once in May or June and once in August. The deadline to apply for proficiency testing is September 1st. Students new to Yukon Public Schools have 30 days to request testing. Qualifying students are those who are legally enrolled in the local school district (Yukon Public Schools). (OAC 210:35-27-2. Proficiency-Based Promotion)
If your child wants to skip a grade level, they are required to complete a test for all core subject areas; English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Middle School and High School students (Grades 6 -12) may be promoted by course not grade level and must complete the applicable state summative assessment.
Proficiency for advancing to the next level of study will be demonstrated by a 90% on a district-administered assessment. Upon completion, test scores will be discussed with the parent or guardian and sent to the site principal via email. Specific test content cannot be discussed due to test security. Oklahoma State Law prohibits Yukon Public Schools from providing Pre-K proficiency exams for early entrance into Kindergarten and K proficiency exams for early entrance into 1st Grade. (OK School Code Section 14.C)
