Great leadership starts with clarity of purpose. In this session, participants will explore their core values, motivations, and long-term vision to better understand what drives them as leaders. Through guided reflection and discussion, they will begin connecting their personal purpose to the way they lead, make decisions, and pursue their goals. 

Outcomes:

• Articulate a personal leadership purpose statement grounded in core values and motivations

• Identify at least two ways their current personal or professional goals can be aligned with their leadership purpose.

Effective leaders understand themselves first. In this session, participants will use the CliftonStrengths assessment to identify their top talents and explore how those strengths shape their leadership style and natural tendencies. Through reflection and peer discussion, they will gain insight into how they show up as leaders and how to apply their strengths intentionally.

Outcomes:

• Identify and describe top CliftonStrengths themes and their impact on leadership style

• Develop one strategy to apply strengths in a current or future leadership context

Leadership is not just about what you do. It is how you show up. In this session, participants will explore self-awareness, empathy, and emotional regulation. They will learn how to manage stress, navigate interpersonal dynamics, and respond thoughtfully in challenging situations.

Outcomes:

• Apply key emotional intelligence concepts to real-world leadership scenarios

• Practice at least one technique for managing emotional responses in challenging situations

Strong leaders communicate clearly, build trust, and influence outcomes. This session focuses on practical skills such as giving and receiving feedback, navigating difficult conversations, and leading without formal authority.

Outcomes:

• Apply a structured approach to giving and receiving constructive feedback

• Demonstrate at least one strategy for influencing others or navigating a difficult conversation

Leadership does not happen in isolation. This session reframes networking as relationship building and explores how meaningful connections create opportunity and impact. Participants will learn how to build authentic relationships and engage more effectively in professional and community spaces.

Outcomes:

• Create a plan to build or strengthen at least three intentional professional relationships

• Demonstrate strategies for initiating and sustaining authentic connections

Great leaders invest in the communities they call home. In this session, participants will explore the opportunities and challenges shaping Knoxville’s future while learning how to make a meaningful impact through service.

Outcomes:

• Identify key factors influencing Knoxville’s economic and community landscape

• Develop a plan to engage in at least one community-based activity aligned with their leadership goals

As the culminating experience of the 2026 YPK Leadership Certificate Program, participants will come together to serve the Knoxville community through a hands-on service project with KAPA Kitchen. This experience provides an opportunity to move beyond learning about leadership and put the skills, relationships, and values developed throughout the program into action.

Together, the cohort will support KAPA Kitchen through service at its food pantry while learning more about the organization's role in supporting individuals and families in our community. Participants will also have the opportunity to contribute needed pantry, cleaning, and hygiene items as a cohort.

This experience challenges participants to consider what it means to use their time, talents, relationships, and resources to create meaningful community impact.
