My focus with this piece was to make the colors vibrant and make the shadows realistic. It was basically a test and a piece that helped refresh my painting abilities.

This is one of the pieces surrounded by my art focus this year and it has to do with being tired and sleepy but not being able to get that much needed rest. My brother was the subject reference.
Rachael Galinato, 2024
For this piece the subject reference was my older sister and her dino stuffed animal, Edward. The idea behind this piece is to demonstrate how people sometimes stay awake in their bed just to think about different things.

This piece was one that I made for an art competition. It took me incredibly long to get every detail as good as can be. For the dress alone, which I meant to be a silky sort of satin fabric, took around 6 hours to fully finish. The hair also took a relatively long time, but not as long, because it took a whopping hour to finish all the curls and tiny lines.

I believe that eyes are extraordinary and a single gaze can hold someone's true self, personality, and emotions. This was an attempt to capture a part of someone's gaze.

This painting was made in an impressionistic style and was an experimentation in coloration. I love the colors of fall and wanted to try and replicate them in my painting.

This was actually a gift for a friend that I made when I was about 11. It's a painting that helped me find myself as an artist and helped start my passion for acrylic painting.

This is probably my favorite piece I've made. I don't typically create portraits with colored pencils but I felt inspired to make this piece and am happy with the outcome. I personally love the contrast between light and shadow and love the overall piece.

The painting offers an invitation to the viewer to travel with them to the world of dreams. There is no pressure, only freedom and possibility.

I did these two drawings with coloring and charcoal :)

This is just a small test sketch I made in my notebook with color pencils before I turned it into a painting. I'm more proud of the sketch.

This was a painting that I made at a CSUMB event with my mother. It was like one of those paint nights, and a good way to relax when bogged down with work.

This painting was basically a test in using gold leaf.
VISIONS OF SUGAR PLUMS
Rachael Galinato, 2024
This was inspired by Maura Kragelund's idea of painting a bunch of dancing sugar plums... Instead I just drew some plum trees surrounding the focus of the piece—someone dreaming.
"Visions of sugar plums" from a poem (Twas a Night Before Christmas) written by Clement Clark Moore.

This piece is inspired by nostalgia from my childhood. I was super into all the stereotypical little girl toys, and I remember they were always so carelessly flung about my room. Often, mostly on my childhood vanity. Pictured in the image are dress up high heels, lip gloss, a crown, nail polish, costume jewelry, and fake blush. All of these material items are such a dying part of my childhood.
