School Visits

Due to coronavirus restrictions, regrettably we are not currently able to offer school visits as part of our programmes. However, we have commissioned a special video tour of a local York primary school, which all students will be able to access if they wish to do so. We will return to offering half-day school visits as soon as possible.

The Visit

Arranged visits last for half a day (morning or afternoon) and may be to a primary school (ages 4-11) or a secondary school (ages 11+). We mostly use state schools, but occasionally we offer visits to local independent (fee-paying) schools. The exact nature of the visit depends on the school, but often visits include a tour of the school and observation of one or more classes. Some schools may ask students to prepare and give a short presentation (this will be discussed prior to the visit).

Costs

The cost for a half day school visit is 200NOK per student which includes coach transportation to and from the school (where necessary). This fee gets added to the course fee. Leaders may attend the visit, also for a fee of 200NOK.

Practical Information

For practical reasons, we would normally expect your whole group to attend the visit and for all students in your group to visit the same school.

All students visiting a school should have valid police clearance. You will be asked to confirm this in a letter which can be shared with the school (which lists the names of all visitors). We do not need to see individual certification. Without certification you will not be allowed to visit, but may still be charged.

Dress Code

Students should be made aware prior to departure that English schools often have a dress code for staff and pupils. Hence students may wish to bring some more formal clothing. As half-day visitors it is not essential that you go in formal attire (suit/tie, etc), however, visitors should go dressed appropriately for a place of work i.e. no bare tummies, shorts, ripped jeans etc. Hats and coats should be removed when indoors. Norwegian jumpers/clothing often make a great impact and can be useful for giving something back to the visited school, providing staff and pupils with a visual piece of Norwegian culture.
