We are dedicated to being student guided and led - so student support is key. There are three ways you can join the project, see below for more details...
Every so often we have paid opportunities to help us conduct some research and/or to support an iniative. Take a look at our Internship Opportunities page to see if we are currently recruiting for any projects that you might be interested in. We'll also advertise internships run by other teams and groups from around the University on this page, who are running projects that align with the DISCO Projects interests. So it's a good page to keep an eye on.
We run a volunteer scheme which students can get involved with at any time. This role is a formally recognised volunteering role in the University which allows you the flexibility to work with us in the way that best suits you.
Essentially it's up to you as it's a volunteer role, so it's what you would like to do with whatever time you're able to give for as long as you would like to be involved.
We do have a few project ideas from past student volunteers and interns we'd love to run with, which you may like to work on:
Creating an accessible/disability inclusion checklist for societies.
Calendar showing disability related awarness and campaign days/weeks & months. Working towards recognising and organising something for some of these.
Awareness campaign for a particular disability or condition.
Building a graphic and/or document showing the different University teams and groups to help make it clear where everyone fits and what they are responsible for - with a particular focus on disability support.
Organising or helping to support the running of DISCO project events.
The above is just to give an idea - if you have an idea for a project, event or campaign we're very open to hearing about it and supporting it if we can.

If you're interested in volunteering with us, use the following to register your interest: DISCO Champion Application Form.
You can visit the Departmental/Schools Communities page to see if your department is already running or starting a community to connect and support students with disabilities, long-term health conditions (including mental health) and/or neurodivergent conditions.
If you're department doesn't have one, but you'd like to start one - we'd love to help support you.
While students are the main driving force behind our communities, it can be helpful to have staff support to help facilitate, guide and provide access to resources. So please reach out as we'd be happy to help provide this support to you, to help you get things started.
Take a look at our Community Building Toolkit, built by students, with lots of ideas, help and advice about starting and building a community to support disabled students.
Email us at disco-project@york.ac.uk to let us know you're thinking about starting a community and we'll get in touch.
