Supporting Disability Community Research & Practice in Higher Education
We are the York DISCO (Disability Community) project. We're a small team of students and staff aiming to improve disabled students' experiences within higher education through building community and belonging. This includes students with long-term physical and mental health conditions and/or neurodivergent conditions.
The project is driven by disabled and ally students, student interns and dedicated staff. It focuses on exploring and understanding how being part of a community can impact disabled students, as well as the challenges and barriers that disabled students may face and the impact these have on their sense of belonging.
We recently finished a project aimed at building community and belonging for disabled students within participating departments at the University of York.
We've recently completed a research project to build the 'Including Disabled People in Research Toolkit.
