Right to Housing

“Everyone has the right to affordable housing”

Everyone should have the right to live in an affordable home, but in this day and age, that’s not going to happen anytime soon. Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights clearly states that everyone should have affordable housing for their mental health and well-being.

Now this should be in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms too because there are so many people in poverty and homelessness because the cost of housing has become so high. And when the pricing is too high people can't buy or rent a place to live.

If the right to life and security is in the Charter, shouldn't the right to a home, which is needed for this, be included too?

“The UN Human Settlement Programmed which promotes the right to housing in cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Right is a reaffirmation of the 1996 Istanbul agreement and Habitat Agenda”

"Rather, the right to adequate housing covers measures that are needed to prevent homelessness, prohibit forced evictions, address discrimination, focus on the most vulnerable and marginalized groups, ensure security of tenure to all, and guarantee that everyone's housing is adequate."
