A scholarship is a financial award granted to a student based on a specific set of requirements or expectations that must be completed in order to apply. While many people think scholarships are only granted to students at the top of their class, there are actually many scholarships available in Canada that are available to students with well-rounded experiences outside the classroom as well. In fact, most scholarships are given out by external sources and are not strictly academic based.
Most post-secondary institutions offer entrance scholarships as a means of attracting top students to their programs. Scholarships are also created by private companies who are hoping to support their community and earn public trust in their organization.
