Feb. 14, 2023 YCDSB Communication to Parents

To Grade 10 and 11 Students and Parents/Guardians,

This is a very important message from the York Catholic District School Board.

February is Course Selection Month.  Over the next few weeks, students will be selecting courses for the 2023 - 2024 school year.

This message is to inform you that the YCDSB is expanding their eLearn offerings in order to provide students with a wider range of course options and to support the new OSSD graduation requirement of 2 eLearn courses and to provide all students across the board with equitable access to courses that otherwise might not run in any one school.

eLearn at the YCDSB is totally asynchronous, meaning that students can access their lessons at a time and place that suits their schedule.

YCDSB teachers facilitate high caliber learning activities online via D2L Brightspace, which is an integrated learning platform designed to create a single place online for instructors and students to interact. D2L is a robust learning tool used not only by all school boards across Ontario, but by many postsecondary institutions. Learning how to use D2L in high school will prepare you for future learning as many postsecondary institutions also use D2L as their VLE.

NOTE: Students currently in grade 11 have already been granted 1 eLearn credit due to COVID.

Thank you so much for considering eLearn. We are very excited at the prospect of students gaining access to so many more courses and for the opportunity to prepare them for a highly digitized and technological world.
