This course engages students in the examination of the Christian narrative as revealed in Sacred Scripture. Students are invited to a deeper understanding of both the joy and the demands of living out the call to discipleship as it is described in the Old Testament. Students explore Stewardship, Faith and Hope as encountered in the Old Testament that deepens their ongoing personal growth and faith understanding. Students explore the history of the Old Testament writings, and learn how to read Sacred scripture for authentic understanding of God’s saving action in the context of the history of the Hebrew people and what it means for humanity in contemporary contexts. The course focuses on encouraging students to know and love by understanding the promise of God’s covenant with the ancestors of the Christian faith. As they learn of the faith and actions of ancient Hebrew prophets, students understand the importance of placing trust and faith in God in order to re-enter into a loving encounter with our loving Creator.. Students will ultimately answer the big question: Why Study Religion? while making prominent connections to monotheistic traditions as well as moral codes in diverse faith traditions. Learning in this course will focus on inclusivity by fostering understanding, shaping personal values and beliefs in light of personal culture and the impact of society and culture on personal faith and beliefs.

'How can we listen to the cry of the earth? As a society, how can we move beyond decreation to recreation?'
This course offers students the opportunity through inquiry to recognize the destructive power of sin and how recreation is our collective responsibility. Students will use their understanding of the Catholic Social Teachings to help them in their challenge to meet the needs of sustainability, moral decision making and increased global awareness.
