Introduce Unsung Hero, ArtEffect Project
Begin Part 2: Brainstorming and
Part 3: Planning Artwork/Composition
You will brainstorm ideas for your composition by creating your concept for your unsung hero, sketching your ideas in your sketchbook.
The planning should include:
- strong compositional skills - placement, arrangement of objects
- original, unique ideas, artistic voice
- a strong, direct connection to your unsung hero’s story
- choice of color/color scheme
- Ideas for media
Consider every visual from the story, including:
- Location (maps, geography, etc.)
- Unsung Hero images
- Significant Objects
Remember: You will need to justify in writing all artistic choices.

Complete the rubric, reflection, and post for the painting.

Exercise: Using a range of values from black to white, paint a simple still life. Finish by the end of class.

Continue by working background to foreground;
Collage things that are behind other objects first; the objects that are closer will be collaged last, as they will overlap what is behind.
You will have about 2 classes to complete it

(5 min) In groups of three, set up a simple still life with a strong light source.
(20 min) Warm-up: Using black uniball pen on white paper draw it accurately adding value.
(15 min) Using canvas paper, sketch your still life, lightly with a pencil.
Using a 9" x 12" paper, paint a value scale using black & white paint
Using a second piece of white drawing paper,
Explore, experiment with different ways to apply paint to the surface - cover the whole sheet
