Project Challenge: Develop 2-3 thrown vase forms and use carving and/or wax or tape resist to enhance the surface design.
What is a Raku Firing? How can you take advantage of the process (and wax!) in your surface design?
The Raku technique essentially occurs when glazed pottery is removed from the kiln while it is still red-hot and then placed on a material that can catch fire, such as sawdust or newspaper. This technique is used to deprive the piece of oxygen, which creates a multitude of colors within the enamel.
Are you happy with your work on your raku forms? Why or why not?
Yes, I'm happy, even though it's not what I expected, but I'm happy with the result.
Please describe what you thought was the most informative part of the field trip. Are there changes you would recommend for the next time the forming of this project is done? Why or why not?
the most informative part was when the raku were coming out of the oven and had to be placed in an environment so that the fire could be put out, we have to keep our distance and do everything carefully
