The purpose of this assignment was to use the correct facial proportions to draw yourself as accurately as you can; and to draw the individual features, eyes, nose, mouth in a convincing 3D way as well as to use graphite and a stomp to show value changes and dimension.
Look at your pre-instructional self portrait with your final self portrait. What do you notice and what did you learn?
Looking back at the comparison between my pre and post instructional portraits I find that I have greatly improved. The first portrait looks like an emaciated mugshot whereas the second portrait which is the post instructional one shows depth and three dimensionality that the first one lacks. I have every clearly learned to take my time and be intentional with my shading and to not cut any corners when it comes to details. The first one obviously didn't capture my likeness at all and missed the placement of eyes, nose, and mouth. However the second one captures my likeness somewhat well with the eyes, nose, and mouth being at least much much closer to the right spot and I would think the right spot.
List and explain at least three main concepts that you have learned throughout this unit:
What I would say I have improved the most on in this unti has been my intentionality and attention to detal accross all aspects of the portrait. My blending and shading have improved greatly and lead to a much more three dimensional drawing than the original or what I would have ever been able to produce before this project. I would attribute that to the gridded practice that we had done in class which I think led to my eventual success with my fatial features. I think another area where I have improved is with the placement of facial features which I think that the gridded image helped greatly with. I placed them much better than the original and I actually kinda look like myself in this portrait which is a success.
