Group Notan Design

Purpose:

• To learn about and practice the Japanese concept of Notan

• Balance positive and negative space in an interesting way.

• Understand and use the Elements of Art: Space (positive and negative)

• Understand and use the Element of Art: Shape (geometric and organic)

Notan is the Japanese word for the balance of light and dark or negative versus positive. In art, it is how artists use the positive and negative space in tandem to create a more interesting piece or even multiple images within the same art piece.
