We spored our first kelp and it has been growing inside our classroom for about 4 weeks now. It is ready for the long lines on the Sea Farm! We transported it to the long lines on December 15th!
This is a picture of our kelp in April. Not the length we would like but this was our pilot year. Proud that we had growth and the students got to see how far it came from the spores.
Our oyster cages have been sunk for the winter but all is well. View our video on looking at the cages on the sea floor.
We are into the third year of our research project and shifting gears to oysters and the restorative marine farming practice. We have completed our first ever plot study looking at clam seed survival in protected and unprotected conditions.
A quick video of our Shellfish Nursery Staff discussing the water quality testing they are completing.
