Reed sculpture: Vine Climbing, 48x24x8 in, made with reed, paper, string, glue.
I think my sculpture connects to the space and enhances it because adds an interesting aspect to an uninteresting area of the school. It’s something that students can look at as they walk up or down the stairs and I think that enhances the space. In making this sculpture, I learned how to make a sculpture fit into a space with the correct proportions and elements to make it stand out. I noticed that the reed I was working with for my sculpture was a very similar color to the wall color of my sculpture site, so I added lots of strings and paper to my sculpture to make it more visible in the space. I think it was very important for me to do that because it wouldn’t be worthwhile to put a sculpture in if no one would notice it. When beginning this project, I was a little worried about what my peers would think, but as I began to love my sculpture as it was being formed, I became okay with others seeing it. It matters more to me whether I like it or not because I’m my own biggest critic. My favorite part of this sculpture is the vine that I added last minute, because it really pulls the piece together and adds extra depth to it.
