How would you compare sculpture with other forms of art (differences, similarities, etc.)
I think it has the most variation compared to other forms of art because there are many materials you can use to make a sculpture, unlike ceramics which only uses clay.
What will you do to help yourself stay organized this semester?
I keep track of all my assignments on a doc and have folders and binders with sections for each class.
Having seen that sculpture can have all sorts of forms and surfaces, what might inspire YOU to make your work this semester?
I think I can be inspired by a lot of different sculptures, so I don’t think there’s anything specific
What materials are you curious about working with this semester?
I’ve never worked with alabaster before, but you said we might be working with it, so I’m excited to learn how to sculpt it.
I am the most proud of my paying attention through sculpture project–the eastern newt–because it’s the project with the most work put into it, and I really enjoyed how it came out. I like research projects and hands-on projects in general, so this sculpture was the perfect combination of those for me. Getting to show the results of my research in a sculpture was really interesting to me, and added to my pride for this project.
Learning about different sculptors throughout the year helped me learn a lot about different styles and methods of creating sculptures, so I’d say any of the research projects we did, like comparing sculptors, or our research leading up to our push/pull sculptures were the most informative to my learning. Learning about people like Michelangelo and Cabot Lyford helped me with my alabaster carving process, and learning about Ruth Asawa gave me inspiration for using space well with abstract art, so the research we did definitely helped shape my thoughts about sculpture.
One of my goals was to stay on top of assignments and stay organized, and I think I achieved this to some extent. I turned in one or two assignments late, but otherwise I felt like my workload was very manageable, and I was able to complete everything in a timely manner.
The project I'm most proud of:
