Purpose:
To determine where values change when light moves over an uneven surface by using a range of values to paint the different values in a realistic, monochromatic self-portrait;
To effectively communicate an image that looks like you through careful examination of the values and structure of your face.
I think perspective is super important in any painting. It is important because if you have the right proportions and angles down then your painting will look much more realistic. Secondly it is important to have patience because the more patience you have the more time and effort will be put into getting a great final product. Lastly is value because it is hard to tell the difference between different parts of the face if the values are the same but if they are different it allows for a more clear and realistic painting
