Purpose:
To create a still-life drawing that demonstrates understanding of angles & ellipses in perspective, along with using a chosen and conscious mark-making technique to describe form;
To understand value by creating a good range of values between black & white to help make the objects appear 3D;
I used cross hatching to help me create a lot more value throughout my still life and it was really helpful because before I knew about these techniques I would just scribble to shade in which can only add so much value and with these other techniques I was able to add balut that I wasn't able to before
The two things that I learned that stand out to me are value and perspective. Perspective was something that I really struggled with before this unit because it was hard for me to judge the different size of the objects and put them on the paper with the same ratio in size. Value was something that I knew what it was but didnt know how to do it the right way and now I do and I can do a lot more with my drawings.
The most important aspect of a good still life to me is an accurate outline and Idea because without them it is almost impossible to make a great still life. Secondly is proportion and perspective. With the correct proportions it is much easier to create an accurate and good still life drawing. Another important aspect is practice. If you go into your final still life without ever doing a still life before you will prolly not do well but if you practice your values, proportions and techniques you will be in a much better spot. Lastly is organization, it is crucial to keep you drawing organized or it will look messy and not as nice
