There are many different important concepts that I learned this semester. One of them is the importance of contrast. When you're making a piece of art, you must have contrast Otherwise, the drawing will look flat and won't have any variety. For example, in the Value Self Portrait, it was necessary that we add contrast to the piece because otherwise, you wouldn't be able to tell any of the features of my face apart. Another example of how I learned the importance of contrast was through the Endangered Species Bowl. I had to make sure that there was contrast on my bowl, otherwise, it would look bland and have no pop to it. The final way that I learned the significance of contrast was through the Final Still Life Drawing. When I was drawing that, I realized that it was significant to have a contrast between different objects, or else they would all look like one big blob. Another important concept that I learned this semester was perspective. When I was doing my pre-instructional still life, I had trouble making the angles and ellipses look the same way on paper as I saw them. But after the lessons on perspective and the One Point Perspective Drawing, I learned how important perspective is and now I know how to do it correctly.

Value Self Portrait
The assignment that I am the proudest of is my Value Self Portrait. I am very proud of this one because I feel like there is good attention to detail and craftsmanship. There is a wide range of colors and they all work together to make a 3D-looking painting of my face. There is also a good amount of contrast that makes it easy to see which pieces of my face are what. This impacted my learning through how it helped me understand how to carefully look through the details of a reference photo and pick out which ones I want in my painting. It also helped me understand how sometimes I need to improvise to make things look better in paint or in a drawing.
