Reflecting on my goals for the semester.
I'm shocked by the drastic change between my composite face drawing, and my final self-portrait. I learned so much about myself and my ability to create something I am proud of. This semester has taught me to pay attention to things I would not have considered before. Things like contrasting lights and darks make the drawing stand out and catch your eye. The eyes and hair are a great example of this. the pupils are the darkest part of my face and the highlight next to it is probably the lightest. One of the greatest things I have struggled with is making faces and landscapes realistic and I have uncovered a whole new understanding of that this semester. Another piece I'm impressed by was my final watercolor landscape painting. I struggled a bit with this painting. I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist and didn't understand what effect "scrubbing" would have on my final result. With this new knowledge, I will not make the same mistake I did while creating this piece. Overall, I have learned so much and cannot wait to use these new techniques in many pieces of artwork to come.
When I see beautiful things in nature or listen to calm, relaxing music I am always inspired to do art. Sometimes it's painting, sometimes it's drawing, sometimes it's sculpting something out of clay. Something about sunlight rays beaming through trees, and letting myself get lost in melodies and lyrics always unlocks a new level of creativity. I have always loved drawing/painting landscapes and want to improve. I have also always had a hard time making people look realistic. These are the two things I hope to work on/learn about this semester.
