I am most proud of my still life drawing because I spent a lot of time time preparing for the final drawing and the result of that was a beautiful drawing. I could tell I did not rush it because I learned how to lay my lines down in the right places. My shadows created a sense of 3D for my objects to stand out. I had to think a lot about the structure of my 3D objects so I could make them look correct. I did not surprise myself in this class because I used to do a lot of art at home since I loved to just sit down and draw. I expected more effort out of myself which was shown in my pieces of artwork because I worked carefully and thoughtfully. When I make something that I am proud of I get this feeling that the more challenging things will be a learning experience. I think that challenges are meant to see how you can do mentally and I take them as a learning experience to learn more about what it is that I am doing. One of our first projects which was the Mia Pearlman paper relief sculpture showed me that art didn’t have to be just drawing and painting. Art could be paper moved and cut into different ways to create a sense of fullness to a black sheet of paper. I learned how to look at something in a way I never did before because I learned how to move pieces of paper into space and think about the negative and positive space as well. The imitation drawing helped me look into the little details of drawings and show what I can turn a white piece of paper into. I got to control the pencil in the way that I wanted to and I learned how to finish a drawing by adding more lines to the figure. I did a hand drawing by Henry Moore which used controlled scribbles to help add value and depth to the drawing. With controlled scribbles, I was able to move my hand around the paper and trust that I could create depth in the hand. I find that art doesn’t have to be precise or on a flat surface I learned that it is what your mind and body tell you to do. It shows what flows through your mind to create something that is bland into something that reflects on you. I want to try my hardest to learn more and more about what it is that I am doing. I am taking photography next semester and I want to learn the value of a photo. I want to create photos that people look at in awe because I want the photos to reflect on the world. A new goal for me is to take everyday life as a piece of spectacular art and cherish every moment. Living in the moment will help me look at everyday life as being a piece of art that needs to be loved. My best friend Ben helps me put my mind to living in the moment and taking everything around me as a learning experience. Hockey shows me the art of figures able to make body movements I have never seen before. I think art appears in everyday life and should be appreciated because we wouldn’t have this beautiful world without the art of life.Â
 First Thoughts/Goals for the Semester
One of the biggest reasons I like doing art is for the joy of being able to express myself in a way without talking about it. I like to tell the story of places where I have been by expressing it through painting or drawing. I also love photography and the best thing about it is being able to capture the pure moments in life. When I argue with my parents and become very enraged I just go to my room and draw or color a drawing I’ve already drawn. I do a lot of photography in New Hampshire where everything comes to life in beautiful ways. I hope I improve my understanding of how to draw in a way where things look more natural/realistic. I also hope to learn more about the techniques of painting.Â
