Previous knowledge about Sustainability:
I never had the luck of working uwith this new subject, however i think that i know more or less what are they main features and objectives that we are looking to transmit to the new generations.
"Sustainability" refers to the ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This definition, proposed by the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987, known as the Brundtland Commission, is one of the most widely accepted and recognized.
The main characteristics about Sustainability are:
Ecological and social interdependence: Recognizes that all systems are interconnected and that actions in one area can have impacts on others.
Conservation of natural resources: Involves the responsible and equitable use of natural resources, ensuring that future generations can also access them.
Social and economic equity: Seeks a balance between economic growth, social justice, and environmental protection, ensuring that everyone has access to the same opportunities and resources.
Resilience: Refers to the ability of social, economic, and environmental systems to withstand and recover from disturbances, such as natural disasters or economic changes.
Preservation of biodiversity: Recognizes the importance of maintaining species diversity and ecosystems, as this is crucial for the stability and functioning of natural systems.
Efficiency in resource use: Aims to minimize waste and maximize efficiency in the use of natural, energy, and material resources.
Participation and collaboration: Involves all stakeholders, including governments, businesses, civil society, and local communities, in decision-making and actions to achieve sustainability.
Long-term planning: Considers the long-term consequences of current actions and seeks solutions that benefit both the present and the future.
Innovation and adaptation: Encourages innovation and the adoption of new technologies and practices that are more sustainable, as well as the ability to adapt to environmental, social, and economic changes.
Education and awareness: Promotes education and public awareness of environmental and social issues, as well as the importance of adopting sustainable practices in everyday life.
