We want everyone to do the birdwatching and powerhouse hunting challenges.

There are extra challenges which are optional too.

Whatever you do, send us lots of photos to put on our website.

Kick Off - Class of 24, Ginormous Google Meet

We kicked off the new learning expedition with a huge Google Meet.

Follow the link to see the recording of the meeting from 1.00pm on Tuesday 5th May,

This was for all of Year 9 across both schools!

It was great to see / hear all of you that were there. We have shared some really interesting challenges. More details on the challenges can be found below.

First challenge - Bird spotting

Second challenge - Powerhouse hunting

ETCH A CELL RESEARCH PROJECT

We need you all to help with important medical research!

Nearly every cell in your body contains hundreds to thousands of mitochondria.

These tiny structures are incredibly important.

They are often referred to as the ‘powerhouses’ of the cell.

This is because they convert the fat, protein and sugar from the food you eat into the energy you need to survive.

You couldn't live without mitochondria, and if they do not work properly it causes very serious problems.

In this project, research scientists in London need your help. Your job is to identify mitochondria in images of cells at a very high level of magnification.

Your work will even eventually train computers to help analyse new data even faster. This will help the scientists to do their research more quickly.

OPTIONAL ADDITIONAL CHALLENGE 1 - BUG HOTEL

If you have a garden or patio space, it would be amazing if you could gather resources to build a bug hotel.

You don't need to complete all of the work on it this week during immersion, as we will get you to revisit it throughout the expedition.

Click on the links below for ideas on what to use / build.

You can see from this image that they do not need to be super complicated!
Good luck building and send us photos!

OPTIONAL EXTENSION CHALLENGE 2 - BUILD A NEST HOUSE

If you have the resources and space you might want to build a small nest box.

This would be a great project to do with family members.

You do not need to complete it in this immersion week. It is something we would ask you to return to every week.

Click on the link for ideas on what / how to build.

Good luck and send us photos!

Closing Circle

We finished the week with a closing circle in Google Meet at the end of the week on Thursday 7th May at 3pm.

We'll be having a meeting at the end of each week.

It was great to see so many of you there. If you can't make it to the hangout each week, please send us photos and videos of your week and we will share them for you.
