Diploma in Expressive Arts Therapy
Objective
The main objective of the course is to open up this highly specialized discipline of study to the Postgraduate level and develop competent practitioners in the field of Expressive Arts Therapy.
The focus of the course would be to equip participants with a combination of theoretical foundation and practical skills. This will enable graduates to incorporate these skills in socially challenging environments within educational and developmental settings and supplement their existent capacities.
Each semester will focus on the following papers:
Expressive Arts Therapy Theory- Art, Drama, Music, Movement and Inter-modality
Expressive Arts Therapy Skills - Art, Drama, Music, Movement and Inter-modality.
Counselling Theories , Processes and Skills
Fieldwork
Research Design and methodology

1 year (Thursday, Friday and Saturday)
Timings
First semester: 12pm - 6 pm
Second semester: Timing for 2 months will vary based on fieldwork on the same day

Eligibility Criteria
Graduation in any subject. (Provisional admission will be provided to those waiting on Graduation results). In keeping with NCAHP Act 2021, Open University at the undergraduate level is not eligible.
No age restrictions for admission.
The application will be scored based on academics, statement of purpose, relevant personal and professional experience.
Shortlisted candidates will be called for an experiential and theoretical interview. All interviews will be held online.
Shortlisted candidates will have to create an audition video of five minutes to support their Expressive Arts Therapy application using any one or more of the following modalities: Art, Music, Drama, Movement and Photography

About Devika Mehta Kadam
Program Head and Core Faculty: P.G. Diploma Expressive Arts Therapy ProgramDevika Mehta Kadam is a Dance Movement Psychotherapist (R-DMP) registered with Association of Dance Movement Psychotherapy, UK and Indian Association of Dance Movement Therapy (IADMT). Along with heading the program at St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), she is the faculty for Diploma courses in Dance Movement Therapy. She is the Co-Founder of ‘Synchrony’ (www.synchronyindia.com) that provides mental health services and training through creative arts with various populations. Ms. Mehta Kadam is the Founding board member and elected Treasurer of the IADMT (www.iadmt.org). She is the Regional Director of Asia for the International Association of Creative Arts in Education and Training (www.iacaet.org). She holds Multiple Masters in Dance Movement Psychotherapy, Clinical Psychology and Indian Folk Dance. She holds a Visharad and a Kovida in Bharat Natyam from Gandharva University and Nalanda Research Centre respectively.She is currently pursuing her PhD at University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. She is trained Supervisor. She is a Tedx Speaker.
Her work started with Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Society in 2009. She has since then worked in Inclusive Mainstream Schools, Not-for-Profit Institutions and Hospitals. She is currently working with Society for Crippled Children and Janakalyan Sevashram in the capacity of a Dance Movement Therapist. She is also the mentor for Youth for Expressive Arts initiative and Light Up Foundation (work in under resourced slum dwellings and camps).
She has represented her work in India at International Conferences across USA, Europe and Asia. She has contributed to the article on Development of DMT in Asia. She has also won national and international awards in visual art and has represented India in performing arts internationally. She has a keen interest in embodied indigenous movement practices and how they can find support in neuroscience. Decolonizing the practice of DMT and actively advocating that mental health is intersectional is integral to her experience of mental health systems.
