Workshops, Seminars and Conferences

The laboratory holds workshops, lecture programs and seminars at regular intervals for faculty and students from this and other colleges/ institutes. Such programmes are organized in collaboration with organizations such as GIZ, IWSA, DBT, Lady Tata Memorial Trust, and RUSA.

Caius Laboratory conducts hands-on workshops with nominal charges on animal cell culture, microscopy, microbiology, protein purification, and recombinant DNA techniques on specific requests from other colleges and institutions.

  1. Caius Research laboratory and Internal quality assurance cell (IQAC), St. Xavier’s College organized an informative seminar on "Intellectual property- a broad overview" on 3rd August 2019. The seminar was organized under the aegis of RUSA for faculty students. The session was conducted by three advocates, high court namely, Mr. Man Mohan Amonkar, Mr. Raj Mohan Amonkar, and Mr. Jacob Kadantot. A total of 34 students, both UG and PG and faculty attended the seminar.

  2. The Caius Research Laboratory organized a faculty development program for faculty from various colleges of Mumbai, supported by the RUSA grant between 4 to 6 September 2019. The program focused on hands-on workshops on “Techniques in Molecular Biology”. Seven faculty participated in the program. Dr. Santosh Noronha, Professor, Chemical Engineering Department, IIT Bombay, delivered the keynote address. Dr. Priya Sundarrajan, Director, Caius research laboratory organized the workshop and was a resource person. Dr. Vishwas Sarangdhar, Consultant, Caius Research Laboratory was another resource person.

  3. The Caius Research Laboratory in collaboration with the Department of Statistics organized a one-day seminar Confluence 2020: “Ignite and innovate - Techniques in research” for in house students and faculty as well as from various colleges of Mumbai, supported by RUSA grant on 4th Feb 2020. The focus of the seminar was to ignite the minds of young students into thinking innovative ideas and research.

2018–19

  1. A One-Day National Conference was organized on 14 July 2018 in collaboration with Indian Women Scientists' Association, supported by DAE-BRNS, on "Advances in Biomedicine". About 140 students and faculty from various colleges of Mumbai attended the conference.

  2. A 'Training of trainers' workshop was organized for the faculty of VES college of Pharmacy on "Cell culture techniques" between 19 to 21 July 2018. Five faculty from the college participated in the hands-on workshop.

  3. A talk on "Introduction to Data Analytics" by Dr. Rahul Nabar – Engineering Consultant and adjunct faculty, IIT Bombay, organized on 27 August 2018. Twenty students and faculty, both in-house and from neighbouring colleges, attended the lecture.

  4. A popular public event was organized on 11 February 2019, in Collaboration with Indian Women Scientists' Association supported by DAE -BRNS. Dr. Nafisa Balasinor from NIRRH gave a talk titled "Gene Imprinting". More than 50 students and faculty from various science departments from our college and from K. M. Kundnani College of Pharmacy attended the talk.

2017–18

  1. Department of Life Science and Biochemistry organized a One-Day National Conference in collaboration with The Verushka Foundation, an NGO working for differently-abled children founded by Ms. Tatyana Dias, the Desai Foundation for Change on 22 January 2018 entitled 'Developmental Disabilities and You'.

  2. Dr. Amit Gandhi, MD (Oncosurgery), consultant cancer surgeon, Cansure Center, Mumbai was invited to deliver a lecture about cancer awareness to our college students on 29 July 2017. The title of his talk was "Know Cancer to No Cancer".

  3. A public lecture was organized in Collaboration with Indian Women Scientists' Association supported by DAE –BRNS on 16 February 2018. Speaker: Dr. Arvind Lali, from DBT - ICT center, Mumbai.

  4. A summer workshop on "Protein Crystallization and Gene Cloning Techniques" was conducted between 5 April - 13 April 2018. Six students participated in the workshop.

2015–16

A 'Knowledge Café' was organized by GIZ's CMPA project in collaboration with Caius Research laboratory on 11 March 2016, which provided a multi-disciplinary and cross-sectoral platform to discuss future research and networking possibilities in coastal and marine biodiversity conservation and ecosystem management. Twenty-three faculty members from various disciplines, namely, science, media, arts from in-house and various colleges of Mumbai, participated in the event.

2014–15

  1. Lady Tata Memorial Trust sponsored a Three-Day Workshop on "Techniques in Cell and Molecular Biology" for college teachers on June 26 – 28, 2014. A total of 25 teachers from 19 colleges across Mumbai participated in the workshop.

  2. A seminar on "Biosafety Issues in Research" under the DBT Star College scheme was organized for college teachers on 20 March 2015. About 55 teachers, both in-house and from other colleges of Mumbai, participated in the workshop, and the participants well received it.
