-Descriptive paragraph was due today.
-We watched a short video and took notes on cause (reason/why?) and effect (result/what happened?). Some signal words to help us are CAUSE= because, since, due to, if, when EFFECT= so, therefore, as a result, consequently, thus, then We started working in a packet to practice. Bring the packet to class tomorrow.
-WOW (acclaim, blatant) due tomorrow.

-Word Play Wednesday! We acted out the Words of the Week! *WOW (acclaim, blatant) due Friday, 9/19.
-Another descriptive paragraph example was read to the class. Some class time was given to work on the descriptive paragraph. The paragraph is due tomorrow, Thursday. It can be typed or hand written. It should have a title.

Mon. 9-15-25
-Reader/Writer Notebook (back of your journal)-- I am (a).... Draw a HUGE block letter I on the page and fill it with as many things as you can that describe you... Mine= mom, teacher, Catholic, helpful, reader, etc.....
-We listened to another example of a descriptive paragraph. We started prewriting by jotting down some ideas of what we might write our paragraphs about. We will continue this tomorrow.
-Words of the Week were handed back. Please remember that the sentences on your assignment need to be original not copied from online.
Fri. 9-12-25
-Journal-- Free Write Friday! Write about anything you'd like. (1/2 page minimum for credit)
-We talked about reason we write. There are so many. We wrote them on the board! (See what I did there?!) We will be writing a descriptive paragraph next week.
-We set up our Reader/Writer Notebook (the back of our journal). We will write in it next week.
-New WOW (acclaim, blatant) due next Friday, 9/19.

-We had a 'check for understanding' of the story Seventh Grade by Gary Soto.
-WOW (endure, homage) due tomorrow.

-Word Play Wednesday! We acted out the Words of the Week!
-We discussed the setting components from the story Seventh Grade by Gary Soto. We discussed a possible theme for the story.... Don't change who you are just to try to impress others. We also talked through some of the questions on page 26 of our literature book in preparation for tomorrow's 'check for understanding' of the story.
Tues. 9-9-25
-We listened to a recording of the story Seventh Grade by Gary Soto. We filled in a grid about setting pertaining to the story.
-Corrected Words of the Week assignments were handed back.
Mon. 9-8-25
-We read the story Seventh Grade by Gary Soto! We recalled the elements of setting in the story. We will listen to the story again tomorrow.
-There will be a 'check for understanding' of the story on Thursday. Please be familiar with the story before then.
-Journal-- Recall your first day of 7th grade.
Fri. 9-5-25
-Journal-- Free Write Friday! Write about anything! (1/2 page minimum for credit)
-We reviewed the parts of a piece of fiction-- plot, characters, conflict, theme, setting. We watched a short, fun video about it!
-Journal-- "In what ways do students try to impress each other in 7th grade? Why might they do that?"
-We looked up vocabulary words for our first literature story. We talked about the author and some background for the story. We'll read the story on Monday!
-Homework: New WOW (endure, homage) due Friday, 9/12.

-We watched a couple quick videos about characters as a review of yesterday's lesson.
-We took notes on setting: where (place) & when (time). We watched a fun, short video explaining this!
time: day/night, past/present/future, season/time of year, time in history
place: real/imaginary
mood/tone: atmosphere, surroundings
five senses: taste, touch, smell, hear, see
weather: rainy, snowy, sunny, foggy, etc.
social: dress, language, religion, culture
-We also talked bout theme: moral, meaning, main message of a story (Don't confuse this with genre!)
-WOW (abrupt, wrath) are due tomorrow!
Wed. 9-3-25
-Word Play Wednesday! We acted out the Words of the Week!
-Notes were handed out from yesterday's lesson on plot and conflict. Put them into your notebook incase you are allowed to use your notebook for any upcoming assessments. *(hint, hint)*
-We continued taking notes on fiction: characters-- people, animals, etc. who take part in the action

protagonist (hero/good) antagonist (villain/bad) *foil (any character who makes the traits of another stand out in sharp contrast)

-We continued with notes on fiction.
Plot--> the sequence of events in a story 1. exposition 2. rising action 3. climax 4. resolution
Conflict--> internal (inside/ person vs. self) external (outside/ person vs. person, nature, obstacle, society)
We watched a short video about conflict. We will continue with notes tomorrow.

Labor Day! No classes.

-Library Day! We had a chance to get to the library to check out books! Make sure to bring your book to class each day.

-Literature textbooks were handed out. You are responsible for your assigned book for the school year. Please cover these old but special books! Bring your book to class each day along with your notebook, journal, and AR book.
-FICTION-- We started taking notes on fiction in preparation for our first literature story!

-First day of school!
-We talked about nouns, adjectives, and verbs and how they could be used to tell about us.
My example... noun- teacher, mom, reader adjective- short, helpful verb- reading, making things
-Please make sure you bring your composition notebook and your classroom notebook to class tomorrow.
