To succeed in our mission, the school counselor team will strive to build a community where all are welcomed. The school counseling team will:  

• Provide unlimited support to encourage intellectual, spiritual, emotional, social, and physical growth of all students appropriate with developmental levels

• Challenge and support students in their journey towards independence, social connections, and a healthy lifestyle

• Support and encourage students as they explore different careers and post-secondary options

• Recognize barriers to academic progress related to cultural issues and foster inclusive learning environments 

• Collaborate with teachers, support staff, specialists, and administration to recognize and respond to the needs of all students through a trauma informed lens

• Invite parents into a partnership with the school to best support their child/student

• Ensure that programs, activities, and initiatives are developed and implemented with the students' best interest at heart

• Foster a welcoming community where culturally diverse individuals feel valued, loved, seen, and heard. 

The comprehensive school counseling program offered at Xavier Elementary School, McDonald Street Campus is rooted in the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) national model. Below are three very important documents associated with the ASCA standards: (1) ASCA ethical standards for school counselors, (2) ASCA student standards: mindsets and behaviors, and (3) ASCA school counselor professional standards and competencies.
