Course Description:

"Students who like hands-on learning will enjoy this class! We cover information on history of stages, theatre make-up, costumes and scenery construction. Learn about and work with a variety of tools and paint implements. The focus of the class will be creative problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork with theatre as the main medium. The final project will be in the area of scenic design. The class works on the fall musical, Christmas Stars, and at least one other production. Students who excel and demonstrate good judgement, respect and responsibility may be asked to work on a particular show crew or as part of a team handling events and rentals in the theatre. "

Our class will focus on the elements of stage craft including the history behind our work, current trends, and reading of plays which will give students a more broad understanding of the knowledge needed to be a working stage technician.

The plan is to spend 1-2 days each week in the theatre and shop for hands-on learning to still occur.
