Expectations
Preparation
A= Consistently prepared for lessons with instrument, lesson book*, band music and pencil. Practices 4-5 times per week.
B= Usually prepared for lessons with instrument, lesson book, band music and pencil. Practices 3-4 times per week.
C= Sometimes prepared for lessons with instrument, lesson book, band music and pencil. Practices 2-3 times per week.
D= Rarely is prepared for lessons with instrument, lesson book, band music and pencil. Practices 0-1 time per week.
Performance
A= Plays instrument consistently with excellence. Is able to play assigned lesson book material and band music with excellence.
B= Plays instrument consistently well. Is able to play most lesson book material and band music well.
C= Plays instrument moderately well at times, but not consistently. Is able to play some lesson book material and band music, but may have difficulty.
D= Plays instrument with lack of skill. Is unable to play lesson book material and band music.
Potential
A= Consistently reaches full potential by cooperating fully in classes and demonstrating outstanding effort and behavior.
B= Often reaches full potential by cooperating fully in classes and demonstrating good effort and behavior.
C= Sometimes reaches full potential by cooperating fully in classes and demonstrating good effort and behavior.
D= Rarely reaches full potential by cooperating fully in classes and demonstrating good effort and behavior.
*included in this expectation is a weekly completed practice journal. The journal is located on the inside front cover of the method book. At the end of each lesson the assignment/date is written in by student/Mr. Nelson. It is the STUDENTS responsibility to put in the number of minutes practiced each day. The goal is 15 minutes of daily practice(using the number of days guideline above). Parents are then to initial in the end box each week where it is printed "parent initials/total".
Students who consistently are unprepared, including absences and no materials, will be scheduled for a conference with parents and Mr. Nelson to discuss future direction of band participation.
Concert:
The spring concert is a culminating event-all students are expected to attend
