ELD I is for students who are English Language Learners and need to develop their language skills in English. This course is designed to provide individual attention to these students in order to help them achieve success in our educational system and provide them with necessary academic vocabulary. Special emphasis will be placed on speaking, listening, writing, and reading.

Prerequisite: Ability to speak and comprehend Spanish. This course will be conducted in Spanish.
Spanish Language Arts is a course designed for students who have a heritage background in Spanish. Students will explore the relationship between language, culture and identity. The course will include a review of vocabulary and grammar structures. Students will engage in honing their listening and speaking abilities, with a heightened emphasis on enhancing their proficiency in reading and writing in Spanish. This course will be conducted in Spanish.

Prerequisite: Successfull completion of Spanish Language Arts I and/or teacher recommendation
Students in Spanish Language Arts 2 will engage in a multicultural community of Spanish speakers in their home language. Students will explore their intercultural identities and communication and their roles in a multilingual society. Students will enhance their proficiency in reading and writing in Spanish and analyze authentic texts, multimedia, and art to enhance their biliteracy.

Prerequisite: Successfull completion of Spanish Language Arts I & II and/or teacher recommendation
Students expand and deepen their command of the Spanish language through critical analysis of literacy and non-literacy texts by Latino and Hispanic authors. They explore complex themes related to identity, social justice, history, and diverse cultural perspectives, strengthening their bilingual communication and their proficiency in reading, writing, and academic discourse. The course promotes the creation of argumentative, analytical, and creative texts, while fostering pride in bilingualism and biliteracy as essential tools for active participation in local and global communities.
