FSAE Electric

What is FSAE Electric?

The Formula SAE Electric series (FSAE-E) is a competition very similar to the FSAE series competition, but with one key difference: it is all electric. The series was launched in 2013 with the goals of promoting electric vehicles and giving students participating in the series an opportunity to get hands-on experience with electric vehicles. WWU Racing had its first attempt at entry into the FSAE-E competition in 2013 when the program started, but it ultimately was not finished in time for competition, and the unused battery pack was used by V63 for their electric drivetrain.

VIKING 64 (2022-2023)

After much trial and error, Viking 64 was the first electric FSAE car that WWU Racing got running. Despite the long hours in the lab and hard work from many members, the car did not pass some of the safety inspections at the competition in June of 2023. Undeterred, the team walked away having learned key lessons and having collected essential data from test drives of the car. Now eager and ready to put that fundamental EV knowledge to the test, Viking 64 marked nothing less than the foundation for future Viking electric FSAE cars to come.

VIKING 63 (2020-2022)

In March of 2020 the team suddenly found itself with a ton of time but no lab access due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Since completing V62 was not possible, the team needed a new project that could last throughout the lockdown period. The team decided to design and build an electric FSAE car, with the plan of prototyping the powertrain in 2021 and taking the car to the 2022 FSAE Electric competition. V63 has an Emrax 228 LC MV motor with a Cascadia Motion PM100DXR motor controller.
