Daily Writing Routine
Opening:
When Writing begins each day, we gather by the SmartBoard and begin with a mini-lesson that lasts approximately 10-15 minutes. During this time a new "teaching point" or skill is introduced and modeled. Students can "turn, pair, and share" new ideas with a partner.
Independent Practice:
After the opening, students return to their "reading spot". Students are given the opportunity to practice the skill modeled during the mini-lesson using their own writing on a ChromeBook. Students write for approximately 25-30 minutes using the following process: Brainstorming, Drafting, Conferencing, Revising, Publishing.
While students are writing, I either meet with individual students or conduct a guided writing lesson with a small group. I focus on writing skills and give tips and tricks to become a better writer!
Closing:
At the end of the lesson, students return to their seats and it is time for the Teacher's Chair! This is the time where the students love to share their work and something new they learned this lesson!
