Daily Reading Routine
Opening:
When Reading begins each day, we gather by the SmartBoard and begin with a mini-lesson that lasts approximately 10-15 minutes. During this time we read a selection together and a new "teaching point" or skill is introduced and modeled.
Independent Practice:
After the mini-lesson, students are given the opportunity to work in their "reading spot" around the room. The students work on ChromeBooks to enhance their computer skills. In their "reading spot" students will work on the weekly reading skill while reading in their Just Right reading book. Some days students will have the chance to work with a reading partner while working on reading comprehension!
While students are reading, I either meet with individual students or conduct a guided reading lesson with a small group. I focus on reading skills such as comprehension, fluency and offer tips and tricks to becoming a better reader!
Closing:
At the end of the lesson, students return to their seats and it is time for the Teacher's Chair! This is the time where the students love to share their work and something new they learned this lesson!
